Maldon resident Leonard Gordon Haigh, 38, pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court to being drunk and disorderly and escaping police custody following the incident in December last year.

Haigh was drinking at a residence in Chiltern, near Wodonga, when the occupants called police because he was becoming aggressive.

He remained argumentative when police officers arrived and would not listen to them, so he was arrested and placed in the pod of the police vehicle to be taken to Wodonga police station.

But while the vehicle was performing a three-point turn, the pod's door became unlocked and Haigh escaped.

After attempting to run away he was again restrained and successfully taken to the station at Wodonga before being taken to hospital, where he was treated for a broken collarbone.

Magistrate John Doherty said he was willing to give Haigh, who had been in trouble with the law in the past, one last chance.

"Stop getting drunk and being a pest," Mr Doherty said.

"I'm the pest controller.".

Mr Doherty confirmed the community corrections order Haigh was already serving.
