"We had close to 10 girls playing cricket at our club last year in our junior grades and that's really exciting for Bendigo and our club," Sandhurst co-president Shane Robinson said this week.
"Unfortunately, the numbers weren't enough to establish a stand-alone girls team.
"This year we are putting additional time, effort and resources into ensuring we have one for the upcoming season."
As well as a stand-alone girls team, the Dragons are also striving to boost their overall junior numbers across all ages from five to 18.
The Dragons this week launched their junior recruitment at the Golden Dragon Museum.
Any juniors interested in joining Sandhurst can contact junior co-ordinator Paul Henderson on 0428 177 314, email sandhurst@club.cricketvictoria.com.au or search for "Sandhurst" at www.playcricket.com.au
