Mount Alexander Shire Council is seeking young musicians to compete in the annual musical contest, Battle of the Bands.
The battle seeks to help musicians gain experience, and possibly win prize money. First prize is $500 for new equipment, instruments or recording time.
Mount Alexander Shire Council youth activities officer Jodie Hearn said young musicians could gain stage experience in a supportive environment.
Ms Hearn said the shire saw "amazing young musicians" each year.
The shire's FReeZA committee is running the battle, as part of its work to support music and cultural events for young people.
Competitors must be aged between 12 and 25 years, and "live, work or play" in central Victoria.
At least half the members of each band must be under 21. Applications are open until Monday August 5.
