But the Bendigo Magistrates' Court heard on Wednesday that an offer had been made to the prosecution and the matter could resolve in a plea, with negotiations between the parties to continue.
Bailey Richard Hogan-Jones appeared via video link, charged with culpable driving causing death, committing an indictable offence on bail, contravening a bail condition, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving while drug-impaired, driving drug-impaired to the extent of being incapable of proper control, speeding, and careless driving.
A 21-year-old woman was killed when the car in which she was a passenger crashed into a stationary truck on Somerville Street on December 17.
The defence was on Wednesday granted leave to cross-examine a crash reconstruction expert and another expert in relation to impairment related to ice use, at the September committal.
Magistrate Megan Aumair also scheduled a special mention for August, to allow the prosecution to consider the plea offer and, in the case no resolution was reached, confirm readiness ahead of the committal.
Members of the victim's family were in court for Wednesday's hearing.
Mr Hogan-Jones was allegedly driving while drug-impaired to the extent that he could not have had adequate control of the vehicle at the time of the December crash.
Police also alleged the car was travelling at between 116 km/h and 144 km/h in the 60 km/h zone.
