The roster for the 2019 women's inter-league football match has been finalised.
The Central Victoria Football League Women's 25-player squad will defend its winning title when it takes on Northern Country this Sunday.
CVFLW inter-league team manager Amy Kenyon said the team was filled with "high standard players".
"We had the clubs nominate their own players and we had an original squad of around 40," Kenyon said.
The number was then reduced to 30 and then to 23 (with two emergency players).
"There was plenty of interest and everyone who was nominated wanted to be involved," Kenyon said.
The team contains a mixture of players from the 2018 inter-league squad as well as new players.
"At the CVFLW club level a lot of the players are really new, but here there is a mixture of experience," Kenyon said.
"The level of training, drills and skills are a bit higher than at regular club level."
In the inter-league match last year against NCWL the CVFLW squad put on a solid home ground performance at the QEO to secure a 13-point win with the final scores 6.3 (39) to 3.8 (26), but this year the team will hit the road and travel to Shepparton for the game.
"All the girls are really keen for the game on Sunday and can't wait for our final training session," Kenyon said.
Above all Kenyon was pleased to see that the level of interest in women's football participation had increased.
"Last year was the first year of the CVFLW women's team," Kenyon said.
"Before that some of our clubs had participated in the Northern Country...but once we had enough teams here we decided we would create our own inter-league team."
"To go from having no league at all to now having six teams in the CVFLW, an inter-league squad and with so many girls keen to play football is fantastic."
The team is made up of players from the six CVFLW teams and will be coached by Hamish Morcom.
