HEATHCOTE coach Wayne Primmer has implored his players to make the most of Sunday's stand-alone Heathcote District league match against Colbinabbin.
The Saints are hosting the Grasshoppers in the Worksafe Game of the Month in what Primmer says will be the closest to a finals-like atmosphere his side will experience this year.
The day will include Geelong captain and Bendigo product Joel Selwood as the guest speaker at the official function.
"We're really looking forward to Sunday. We can't play finals, so this week gives the boys a chance to perform in front of what should be a reasonably big crowd against a quality team," Primmer said on Friday.
The Saints are still hunting their first win of the season, with one advantage they have over Colbinabbin is they had the bye on what were some of the worst conditions the region's footballers have experienced in years last week.
"We've freshened up after a week off and didn't have to run around in that slop, so that's worked out alright for us," Primmer said.
Prior to the bye the Saints stuck with flag contender LBU for the first half, before going down by 70 points.
It was similar against Colbinabbin earlier in the season when the Saints were within striking distance at half-time of their 26-point defeat.
"We feel we've got the capabilities of matching the good sides, but our problem has been being able to sustain it," Primmer said.
"If we can put four consistent quarters together and take our chances we think we can be right in the game."
Meanwhile, White Hills has confirmed the re-appointment of Sam Kerridge as coach for a second season next year.
Kerridge joined the Demons this year straight off Carlton's list, as did fellow White Hills recruit Jed Lamb in a pair of coups for the club.
Having played several cameo games with Bentleigh this year, Lamb is now full-time with the Demons for the remainder of the season.
* Saturday's games - Leitchville-Gunbower v Elmore, Huntly v LBU, White Hills v North Bendigo. Sunday - Heathcote v Colbinabbin. Mount Pleasant bye.
