THE Bendigo Pioneers featured in a bizarre NAB League scoreline against country foe the Murray Bushrangers at Echuca on Saturday.
Despite having 15 less scoring shots than the Bushrangers, the Pioneers were beaten by just 10 points in an old-fashioned wet-weather slog.
The Bushrangers converted just three of their 25 scoring shots in their 3.22 (40) to 4.6 (30) victory that leaves the Pioneers with a 3-7 record.
Despite the lopsided difference in scoring shots, the Pioneers (3.5) and Bushrangers (1.17) were all square at 23-apiece at three quarter-time.
The Pioneers kicked the first goal of the final term through Braydon Vaz to take the lead, but the Bushrangers responded with two goals in the final 10 minutes to clinch victory and avenge their five-point loss to Bendigo from earlier in the season.
Skipper James Schischka racked up 28 disposals and four marks to be the Pioneers' best, while other strong contributors included Cobi Maxted, Ben Worme and Riley Wilson, who laid an equal game-high eight tackles.

Thunder kept scoreless at QEO by Falcons
THE Bendigo Thunder endured their second-consecutive scoreless match on Sunday as they went down to Darebin at the QEO.
The Falcons won 6.12 (48) to 0.0 (0) as the Thunder's struggles in division one of the Northern Football League Women's competition continued.
"We were really happy with the second half. To keep a top side to eight points in a half was really pleasing and the girls didn't give up," Thunder coach Luis Alvarez-Harris said.
"Hopefully, some reward for effort is just around the corner for the girls."
On another tough day, impressive youngster Katelyn Hazlett was Bendigo's best.
