About 150 students from six schools across Bendigo have mustered at the Bendigo Baptist Church for an intensive week culminating in a finale concert on Thursday night.

The event is the 31^st Bendigo Instrumental Music Program music week, co-coordinator Jane Geddes said.

"We have guest conductors from around Victoria. We always get great feedback from visiting artists about the talent in Bendigo.

"The tutors you see around here are university students and most have come through the program. Kids start with the program, do their first camp six months later and after four years have friends for life."

Alicia Parry is one such graduate currently studying at the University of Melbourne to become a qualified music teacher.

"My first year was 2010 and I did four years as a student here. I was invited back in 2016 as a tutor," she said.

"It's interesting, because you remember from your years as a student what you enjoyed, what was interesting and what you learnt from the tutors.

"So reversing the roles is very interesting.

"Over the three days you are here as a tutor you see how the kids improve. The first day they might struggle to hit the right notes but two days later they have intensely worked on everything and made a huge difference in their playing."
