Dean Stewart Poot, 28, is charged with sabotage, unauthorised access to data with intent to commit a serious offence, using a carriage service to make a threat, using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, and dishonestly obtaining personal financial information.

He appeared in Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Monday for a short hearing.

Details of the charges show that Mr Poot's alleged act of sabotage took place between October 14 and 18 last year in Bendigo, and involved causing an "unauthorised computer function intending to cause major disruption to the use of services by the public".

The serious offence Mr Poot was allegedly intending to carry out when he gained unauthorised access to data between October 2018 and June 2019 was to dishonestly obtain financial advantage for himself or someone else.

It is alleged Mr Poot made a threat between January 18, 2019 and February 28, 2019 to cause serious harm to a person. He is also accused of obtaining the names and credit card details of other people.

Mr Poot will return to court in October for a committal mention.

He remains in custody.
