Despite a first quarter challenge from the Roos - which included an impressive opening goal from Corey Greer- the Hawks were able to take control of the game.
At the end of the first quarter the Hawks had a ten-point lead 3.7 (25) to 2.3 (15).
"The Flat boys played pretty good in the first quarter, it was fairly even at quarter time," Hawks coach Travis Matheson said.
"But then we were able to kick away in the second and third quarters, it was all about taking back the game and playing on our terms."
In the second quarter the Hawks booted six goals to the Roos' one, with the scores at 9.13 (67) to 3.5 (23) at half-time.
The Hawks were able to seal the deal in the third quarter by adding another 10 goals to the board to the Roos' one, scores were 19.17 (131) to 4.7 (31) going into the final quarter.
In the last term the Roos' Lloyd Needs made a solid contribution to the scoreboard with some impressive goalkicking, but it was little too late.
The Hawks firmly secured victory on the final siren to win 22.19 (151) over the Roos 8.10 (58).

The Hawk's Cameron McGlashan was named as best on followed by Jesse Collins, Riley Saunders, Sam Harper, Sean Williams and Tim Hill.
"Cameron played through the ruck and did a top job for a second week in a row," Matheson said.
Saunders and Williams led the team's goalkicking with six apiece.
Kangaroo Flat coach Rob Bennett said the team was missing key players.
"But it wouldn't have made any major difference to today's result," Bennett said.
"The good thing is we will have a few of our guys back in action next week against Sandhurst."
However, consistency would be the focus for the team for the rest of the season.
"It shows that our good (performances) stick up against the better sides," he said.
"But our bad ones see us fall away and when it gets tough we need to be able to work our way through the game to keep up our effort."
The Roos' Jono Lanyon led the best on, followed by Nathan McHugh, Liam Collins, Ross Turner, Mitchell Holt and Kyle Symons.
"Jono was a long way in front of everyone else in his attack on the footy and work rate - he's played a fantastic month of football," Bennett said.
Lloyd Needs was the team's leading goalkicker with three.
"He is still learning the game, he hit the board a couple times late in the last quarter, but he needs to be able to impact the game more often earlier in matches," Bennett said.
"He is still learning the craft and but he will definitely get there in the end."
