People from bushfire-affected communities, Aboriginal Victorians, emergency management workers and those involved in bushfire recovery are asked to give their input.
The museum was a recommendation of the Bushfire Anniversary Advisory Group, which was chaired by former Premier and Bendigo MP, John Brumby.
During the consultation period, ideas on how the centre would function, its location and what visitors would expect will be collected.
Other fires to be included in the museum are the Ash Wednesday fires, the 1969 Lara fire, and the 1939 Black Friday fires.
It is intended the centre would educate the community about bushfires and inform them of recent and historical fire events in Victoria.
