Midfielder Callum Browett has joined his former Fort William team-mate Craig Rennie at Eaglehawk for the remainder of the BASL season.

"I'm 26 now, so I thought if I was ever going to do it (play overseas) now was the time to do it, so here I am,'' Browett said.

"It makes it easier coming to a club where there's a familiar face (Rennie). It makes it easier to settle in.

"Craig is different to me. He has speed where I'm more an on the ball player.

"Hopefully, I can play the passes and he can finish the chances off."

Fort William plays in the Southern Highlands League - the fifth tier of Scottish soccer.

"The top teams in that league are really good... but we were at the bottom end of the league,'' Browett said.

"It's a really competitive league, every game is a real contest."

Browett hadn't played for two months, so he jumped at the opportunity to join his new team-mates for a practice match against the Melbourne Victory under-18 side in Melbourne on Saturday.

Melbourne Victory won the game 5-1, but it was a good way for Browett to blow away the cobwebs.

"They were very quick,'' Browett said of the young guns from Melbourne Victory.

"I was a bit lost for the first 20 minutes, but once I started to get on the ball I started to pick things up a bit.

"It was nice to be back playing again."

FC Eaglehawk president Ben Pengelly said Browett impressed in Saturday's trial match.

"He's very tight on the ball, has good control and good vision,'' Pengelly said.

"Obviously, he links in well with Craig, but from what we saw on Saturday it looks like he links in with our team well.

"Considering he only got off the plane on Thursday, he played really well on Saturday."

With the way the BASL fixture is formulated, Eaglehawk hasn't played since May 19.

The Borough have four wins and two draws from six games and sit in third place on the table - four points behind championship leaders Strathdale.

Browett's first BASL game is this Sunday against ninth-placed Shepparton at Truscott Reserve.

"I've been playing at a club that was at the other end of the table and was battling to win, so it's nice to be on the other side of that here,'' he said.

"It would be nice to help them team kick on and win another championship."

Shepparton South v Tatura, Moama-Echuca Border Raiders v Golden City, Colts United v La Trobe University, Eaglehawk v Shepparton. Strathdale, Epsom and Shepparton United have the bye.

All games start at 3pm.
