HEAVY rain and damaging wind could lash much of the state tomorrow.
Bendigo, Castlemaine and Maryborough can expect 15 to 40 millimetres of rain, the Bureau of Meteorology says.
Echuca can expect 8 to 20 millimetres.
Gusts of up to 100km an hour are expected in elevated areas to the state's west.
Low lying areas of central Victoria can expect winds north to north easterly at 20 to 30km an hour.
Winds are expected to ease gradually over Wednesday afternoon.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
- secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
- keep clear of fallen power lines;
- don't walk, ride or drive through flood water;
- keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
- be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks;
- be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads
