The CFA was called out to a fire on which rubbish was being burnt on Reserve Street in Eaglehawk at 10.16am on Monday. Firefighters put the blaze out on their arrival at the scene.
Eaglehawk Brigade Captain Duncan Murley said the person responsible was cooking breakfast outdoors, and put materials on the fire he should not have. These made the fire bigger than the person had expected.
Mr Murley reminded people not to burn rubbish.
"The City of Greater Bendigo has an open air policy: you're not allowed to burn rubbish ... outdoors," Mr Murley said.
"Repetitive calls are a nuisance. It takes us up here, if something did happen on the other side of Eaglehawk, we're tied up."
