Stewart Crameri kicked four goals as the Magpies won their third game of the season. It's the first time since 2014 the Magpies have won at least three games in a season. A five-goal-to-none third term was the difference as Maryborough extended its eight-point half-time lead to 43 points at the final change.
Castlemaine 6.3 (39) lt Golden Square 19.19 (133)
Adam Baird kicked four goals and had a mountain of possessions, while Alex Marklew was dominant as Golden Square outclassed Castlemaine at Camp Reserve. Angus Monfries kicked three of the Magpies' six goals.
Gisborne 14.20 (104) d Sandhurst 12.6 (78)
Gisborne star Pat McKenna kicked eight goals in a best on ground performance as a wayward Bulldogs defeated Sandhurst by 26 points. There was only one goal the difference at the main break before the home side took control. Matt Thornton kicked five goals for Sandhurst.
Kyneton 1.9 (15) lt Eaglehawk 21.14 (140)
Eaglehawk snapped its two-game losing streak with a commanding win over a disappointing Kyneton. Tim Hill moved from defence to attack and kicked five goals for the Borough and Riley Saunders kicked five as well. Rhys Magin kicked Kyneton's only goal in the third quarter and was the Tigers' best player.
Strathfieldsaye 26.16 (172) d South Bendigo 4.6 (30)
The Storm celebrated Lachlan Sharp's 150th game with a big win over the Bloods. Sharp kicked eight goals, while Sam Heavyside and Bryce Curnow were at their dominant best. Kaiden Antonowicz booted all four of South Bendigo's goals, including three in the first quarter.
HEATHCOE DISTRICT - ROUND 8
Mt Pleasant 8.9 (57) lt Colbinabbin 16.6 (102)
Beware the Grasshoppers. The pre-season flag favourites showed their class with a 45-point win over Mounts. Colbo's pressure in the first half was too much for the home side to handle and the margin was seven goals at the main break. Star defender Damien Carmody was superb, while Nick Knight and Ben Southam did plenty of damage through the middle. Cam Moore was named best for Mounts after restricting Daniel Connors to three goals.
White Hills 16.14 (110) d Huntly 7.10 (52)
Huntly led the Demons by nine points at the main break, but it was one-way traffic in the second half as the Demons added 11 goals to one. White Hills' stars Jed Lamb and Mitch Dole kicked 10 goals between them. Experienced duo Harry Whittle and Stacy Fiske were best for Huntly.
Elmore 5.8 (38) lt Lockington-Bamawm United 20.12 (132)
Rhys Woodland kicked eight goals in the Cats' 94-point win over Elmore. LBU kicked 13 goals to three in a dominant second-half. Woodland and Jacob Gardiner were best for LBU, while Bailey Boyack and Nick Page battled hard for Elmore.
North Bendigo 23.26 (164) d Heathcote 6.3 (39)
The Bulldogs led by 10 goals at quarter-time before cruising to a 125-point win over the Saints. Shane Harris kicked six goals in a best on ground performance, while Jarrod Findlay and Joel Helman were dominant in the middle of the ground. JAck Brooks kicked four of the Saints' six goals.
LODDON VALLEY - ROUND 9
Newbridge 9.8 (62) lt Pyramid Hill 11.15 (81)
The Bulldogs were made to work mighty hard to retain their undefeated status. The Maroons led by one point at three quarter-time before the Bulldogs kicked 5.3 to 2.1 in the final quarter. James Sala and Dylan Morison were best for Pyramid Hill, while Chris McLean and Tyler Romeril played well for the Maroons.
Mitiamo 21.18 (144) d Marong 5.6 (36)
Justin Maddern bagged seven goals and Matt Grant was best on ground as the Superoos handed Marong its biggest loss of the season. The Panthers were held to one goal in the first half. Nathan Devanny and Corbin Fleming were best for Marong.
Maiden Gully YCW 8.14 (62) lt BL-Serpentine 15.10 (100)
The Bears moved into the top three after scoring their best win of the season. A six-goal-to-none second term set up the 38-point victory. Midfielder Matthew Gibbs continued his superb form, while Tom Ferguson was solid off half-back. Alex Pearson was best for the Eagles.
Calivil United 21.15 (141) d Inglewood 4.14 (38)
The Demons had seven players kick multiple goals as they thumped the Blues by 103 points. William Jeffs and Natahn Dyson led the way for Calivil United, with Jake Hall kicking four goals. Big man Lachlan Sidebottom was best for Inglewood.
