The event celebrates the natural colours of the alpaca, with more than 300 animals and 120 fleeces being judged and on display.
Convenor Jonathon Provis-Vincent explained how winning an award at the show can boost a breeder.
"It essentially benchmarks them against all the top colours in the country," Mr Provis-Vincent.
The show is being livestreamed internationally.
"Australia is regarded as having some of the best genetics in the world - overseas breeders will be keeping an eye on which bloodlines are winning," Mr Provis-Vincent said.
This year marks the first year since 2016 the annual competition has been held as a standalone event.
For the past two years, it has been incorporated with the national show under the banner of the Alpaca Spectacular, but with the national event moving to Canberra, it has returned to its previous form.
The event is open to the public and finishes at 12.30 on Sunday, June 9.
