BENDIGO'S Lisa McCabe has created another piece of Premier Cricket history, becoming the first woman to win the umpire of the year in any grade.

McCabe was recently named Premier Cricket's Best Third XI Umpire, earning the Ron Wright Medal.

Her selection for the medal came after McCabe became the first female to officiate in a Premier Cricket grand final when she took charge of the third XI decider between Melbourne University and Footscray in March.

"2018-19 was a fairly successful season... my first full season in Premier Cricket and then two tournaments as well (Australian Country Cricket Championships and Australian Under-15 Girls Championships)," McCabe said on Wednesday.

"Doing the Premier Cricket third XI grand final and then getting the third XI umpire of the year has been a massive season and something I'm proud of."

McCabe will now step up to the Premier Cricket second XI umpiring panel next season, while she'd like to officiate at the Australian Country Cricket Championships again and also has her sights set on umpiring at the Under-17 Boys National Championships.

McCabe's meteoric umpiring journey began in October of 2015 in a Bendigo District Cricket Association second XI game.
