The former Golden Square and Bendigo Pioneers midfielder faces another month on the sidelines after injuring his calf on the weekend.
Caldwell was playing just his second game for the Greater Western Sydney reserves in the NEAFL when he strained his calf.
"Jye suffered a grade two soleus strain unfortunately so we'll take him slow," Giants general manager of football Wayne Campbell said.
"He's had a bit of soft tissue history over the last couple of years so he'll probably be a solid month before we see him again."
A hamstring injury ruined Caldwell's national under-18 championships campaign last year. After being drafted by the Giants with selection 11 in the national daraft, Caldwell looked on track to debut for the club in round one on the back of impressive form in the pre-season.
However, a groin injury on the eve of the season put him on the sidelines.
He returned to action in fine style in the GWS reserves, collecting 32 possessions and kicking a goal to again put his name up for senior selection.

Last Saturday's injury against the Brisbane Lion reserves in Maroochydore means Caldwell won't play again until late June at the earliest.
There was better news for fellow Pioneers graduate Fergus Greene. The athletic forward made it through his return game from an ankle injury with Footscray in the VFL. Greene kicked 0.2 in the Dogs' 19-point victory over North Melbourne.
Former Strathfieldsaye and Bendigo Pioneers' running defender Angus Schumacher had 12 disposals in the Northern Blues' 11-point loss to Sandringham.
The Carlton-listed player continues to push for his first game at AFL level.
Meanwhile, Sandhurst's Lachlan Tardrew had 16 possessions, four tackles and three marks for Collingwood's VFL team in Saturday's win over Box Hill.
Tardrew played off half-back and the wing in the 14-point victory.
