THE money needed to make the Bendigo Law Courts safer has been hailed as 'wonderful' by the head of the city's legal association.

The Victorian government has set aside $152 million dollars in today's budget to build on a new site next to Bendigo TAFE in the central business district.
Bendigo law Association president Juliana Smith was down at the existing law courts Monday morning and said it was obvious upgrades were needed.
"We've been agitating for it for a significant number of years now, so its great that now the elections are out of the way these funds have been released," she said.

Lawyers formed a working committee back in 2011 to evaluate the city's courts.
Bendigo's legal community campaigned for new courts to address safety issues with the circa-1892 building, including respondents to family violence matters entering and waiting at the same areas.
Those attending the Family Court have a similar issue.
Legal professionals are also required to enter with those at the courts for criminal matters.
Premier Daniel Andrews promised funding for new courts last year during the election campaign.
