The Dragons held a 23-point lead over the Magpies at half time, and when the sides came back onto the ground, it was a different game.
The Dragons kicked 14 goals in the second half to the Magpies' one to secure a 22.13 (145) to 5.10 (40) win at Camp Reserve.
"Our first half wasn't quite as clean as we would've liked - we kept having quick chains of possessions and then they were followed up with a poor kick or missed handball," Sandhurst coach Ash Connick said.
"Our stoppage work was exceptional after half time and the way we moved the footy around was much better.
"We rotated a few of our guys through the middle of the ground and Castlemaine was a little bit undermanned with some injuries and they simply ran out of legs.

"We played the footy we wanted to play - everyone lifted."
Dragons' forward Matt Thornton and Lachlan Zimmer booted five goals each, with Thornton named as best alongside, Jake Pallpratt, Zimmer, Jake McLean, Alex Wharton and ruckman Chris Down.
Magpies' forward Angus Monfries and Jake O'Brien kicked two goals each, with O'Brien named as best alongside Monfries, Matt Filo, Anthony Robins, Sam Simpson and Daniel Easson.
Dragons now move to fourth on the ladder with a 4-2 record with Castlemaine on the bottom at 0-6.
