BENDIGO LEAGUE - ROUND 6
GOLDEN SQUARE v EAGLEHAWK
1.30pm Saturday at Golden Square.
Shapes as a cracker of a game between two arch-rivals that are both 4-1 on what's a big day for the Bulldogs, with the game to be followed by the club's first Hall of Fame induction.
All four of Square's wins have come against teams that are outside the top five, while the side, after an encouraging first quarter, was found wanting in its biggest test so far with a 66-point hiding from Strathfieldsaye in round three.
In front of many of the club's greats, this is an ideal opportunity for Square to again test its mettle against a quality opponent in the reigning premiers.
Last time: Eaglehawk 15.9 (99) d Golden Square 11.12 (78).
KANGAROO FLAT v STRATHFIELDSAYE
2.20pm Saturday at Kangaroo Flat.
Hard to see it being anything other than one-way traffic in favour of the ladder-leading Storm.
The Storm - the only undefeated team - are playing a brilliant brand of two-way football and putting their opposition away early, having led by an average of 40 points at half-time in their five wins.
Star forward Lachlan Sharp's 33 goals are as many as the Roos have kicked in their five games.
Last time: Strathfieldsaye 25.20 (170) d Kangaroo Flat 7.5 (47).
CASTLEMAINE v SANDHURST
2.20pm Saturday at Castlemaine.
It has now been 10 years since Castlemaine last beat Sandhurst and it's tough to see the Dragons' decade of dominance not continuing.
The Magpies are enduring another season of struggle at 0-5 and averaging just 40 points per game, with co-coach Derrick Filo this week saying the team was still finding its chemistry given there's so many new players.
Despite getting nowhere near their best team on the park yet, the Dragons should move to 4-2 come 5pm Saturday ahead of a testing fortnight against Golden Square and Gisborne.
Last time: Sandhurst 34.25 (229) d Castlemaine 0.4 (4).
GISBORNE v MARYBOROUGH
2.20pm Saturday at Gisborne.
After showing plenty of encouraging signs in the first month, the Magpies would be disappointed with their lacklustre display against Golden Square last round when they lost by 113 points.
Next is another massive test - the trek to Gisborne to take on the second-placed Bulldogs, who have already had the forward trio of Pat McKenna (twice), Jack Scanlon (twice) and Jake Conolan (once) kick five-plus goals.
Last time: Gisborne 20.18 (138) d Maryborough 6.7 (43).
KYNETON v SOUTH BENDIGO
2.20pm Saturday at Kyneton.
Both teams coming off a pair of heavy defeats to flag contenders - Kyneton by 134 points against Strathfieldsaye and South Bendigo by 97 points against Gisborne.
The Bloods, who are struggling to get out of the blocks, have now lost four in a row by an average of 63 points.
The 2-3 Tigers have been superbly led by the midfield duo of Rhys Magin and skipper Josh Govan, who have been named in their best every game so far.
Last time: Kyneton 20.14 (134) d South Bendigo 11.10 (76).

LODDON VALLEY - ROUND 7
NEWBRIDGE v BRIDGEWATER
2.15pm Saturday at Newbridge.
The Maroons certainly aren't the dominant force they were last year. Six rounds into their premiership defence they are 2-3 and outside the top five.
Perhaps a game against their most fiercest of rivals, Bridgewater, will be just the tonic to spark the Maroons.
The young Mean Machine have certainly proven a surprise packet so far, winning four of their first six games.
Last time: Newbridge 13.10 (88) d Bridgewater 7.8 (50).
MARONG v BL-SERPENTINE
2.15pm Saturday at Marong.
After starting the season 2-0, the Bears have lost three on the trot - albeit to the top three teams in Pyramid Hill (50 points), Mitiamo (51) and Bridgewater (14).
Now they play the fourth-placed and improved Marong (3-3), whose three wins have already equalled their tally of last season.
Last time: BL-Serpentine 21.12 (138) d Marong 14.6 (90).
PYRAMID HILL v MAIDEN GULLY YCW EAGLES
2.15pm Saturday at Pyramid Hill.
The impressive Pyramid Hill haven't put a foot wrong yet - five wins from five games by an average of 71 points, which includes winning 18 of its 20 quarters.
Like last year, the Bulldogs are defending staunchly, but have added far more attacking flair, averaging 120 points per game.
Following their 0-2 start, the Eagles are starting to gather momentum with three wins in a row - including two by less than a kick against Calivil United (3 points) and Marong (1).
Last time: Maiden Gully YCW 16.12 (108) d Pyramid Hill 10.15 (75) - qualifying final.
INGLEWOOD v MITIAMO
2.15pm Saturday at Inglewood.
Given the genuine optimism at the start of the year at Inglewood that 2019 would finally be a season of vast improvement, the Blues are 0-5 and in the all-too-familiar position on the bottom of the ladder.
They now come up against the 4-1 Superoos who have peeled off three wins in a row against Newbridge (72), BL-Serpentine (51) and Calivil United (15) since they were stung into action by their poor showing against Pyramid Hill in round two.
Last time: Mitiamo 15.17 (107) d Inglewood 6.9 (45).
TIPS:
Kieran Iles (17) - Newbridge, Marong, Pyramid Hill, Mitiamo.
Adam Bourke (16) - Newbridge, Marong, Pyramid Hill, Mitiamo.
Luke West (15) - Newbridge, Marong, Pyramid Hill, Mitiamo.
Anthony Pinda (16) - Bridgewater, BL-Serpentine, Pyramid Hill, Mitiamo.

HEATHCOTE DISTRICT - ROUND 6
LEITCHVILLE-GUNBOWER v COLBINABBIN
2.15pm Saturday at Leitchville.
A tough run with injuries and unavailability has hampered the Grasshoppers' first five rounds, but they have battled through to be 3-1.
Their next assignment is the trip to Leitchville to take on the Bombers, who among their past three games have been on both the right (against Heathcote) and wrong (against Elmore) side of results decided by a kick.
Last time: Leitchville-Gunbower 9.7 (61) d Colbinabbin 4.8 (32).
NORTH BENDIGO v ELMORE
2.15pm Saturday at North Bendigo.
Been a grind for Elmore the past two games, with the Bloods following up their thrilling wins over Huntly and Leitchville-Gunbower with heavy losses to White Hills and Mount Pleasant by a total of 160 points.
Now the Bloods face the toughest away trip in the competition to Atkins Street to take on a Bulldogs side that lost its last game to Mount Pleasant (15 points) and then had two weeks off to stew on the result.
Last time: North Bendigo 39.29 (263) d Elmore 4.6 (30).
WHITE HILLS v HEATHCOTE
2.15pm Saturday at White Hills.
Much better signs for White Hills in their past two games, belting Elmore by 95 points and then pushing top side LBU all the way at Lockington in a four-point loss.
Yet the Demons are 1-4 and need to start getting motoring to get themselves back into the season.
The 0-4 Saints are the only winless team, but have been knocking on the door - their past two games against Leitchville-Gunbower and Huntly have been losses by a combined 14 points.
Last time: White Hills 18.18 (126) d Heathcote 9.13 (67).
MOUNT PLEASANT v LBU
2.15pm Saturday at Toolleen.
Match of the round between the ladder-leading Cats (5-0) and fourth-placed Blues (3-1).
The slick Cats are living up to their pre-season expectation as being among the top echelon of teams, while the Blues are playing their best footy since they last played finals in 2014, going into the game off the back of a hat-trick of wins over Elmore (65), long-time nemesis North Bendigo (15) and White Hills (50).
Last time: LBU 12.11 (83) d Mount Pleasant 8.3 (51).
TIPS:
Luke West (18) - Colbinabbin, North Bendigo, White Hills, LBU.
Adam Bourke (17) - Colbinabbin, North Bendigo, White Hills, LBU.
Anthony Pinda (14) - Colbinabbin, North Bendigo, White Hills, Mount Pleasant.
Kieran Iles (13) - Colbinabbin, North Bendigo, White Hills, LBU.
