Students at Bendigo's RMIT Flight School will have one of the most advanced flight training simulators at their disposal as they prepare to take to the skies.
The flight school unveiled its new flight simulator at its open day on Sunday.
RMIT senior manager of flight and aviation Mike Heffey said the simulator will be used by all students as part of their syllabus.
"They will spend around 30 training sessions in the simulator as part of their accreditation," he said.
"Most importantly though, it is good for remedial training. If someone is having problems with their technique or handling they can get into the simulator to iron out the problem rather than getting into an expensive aeroplane."
RMIT also has simulators at its Point Cook and city campus.
Equipped with six large screens, Mr Heffey said the simulator is quite immersive.
"I don't know of any other flight school in the region has a simulator on this level of detail," he said.
"The fidelity and realism is very high. We have had wonderful feedback from pilots in rural areas and qualified pilots. The graphics and inputs into the controls are very realistic.
"One of most important things is that we have standardised delivery of courses across all our sites. If a student is in Point Cook or Bendigo, the equipment is the same, the simulator is the same and the course is the same.
Students will spend one day a week at RMIT's Melbourne in city during their studies when RMIT takes on its first Bendigo class in the second half of the year.
RMIT announced in March it would expand its flight school to Bendigo Airport during the second half of 2019.
