With 1km left in the race, Lea showed the crowds why he was crowned King of the Mountain on the Tour Down Under.
Lea powered to the front of the pack which was closely marked by young gun Blake Agnoletto and Mark O'Brien.
And then on the remaining 500m, the steepest part of the 2km climb, he took the lead to secure the win and also the fastest time.
Lea will now prepare for a few whirlwind weeks competing across Europe with Team BridgeLane.
The Melville Classic is a handicap event, held over 71km with an iconic final climb to the Melville Caves BBQ area.
The race started in Woodstock along Newbridge road to Tarnagulla, before heading south to Dunolly and then back north for the finish at the Melville Caves.
In total 54 riders competed across a range of handicaps, 35 minutes, 21, 14, 6.30 and scratch.
