But every few months there are the majors - and for Bendigo golfer Lucas Herbert, the 2019 US PGA Championship will be his first for the year.
The 2019 US PGA will be Herbert's third career major tournament, following a T51 finish at the Open Championship last year and an appearance at the US Open.
But if one thing is for sure, the Neangar Park product will be determined to finish on top and no doubt will fire on all cylinders come round one Thursday night Australian time.
Herbert will be up against the world's best golfers - with the likes of defending champion Brooks Koepka, Tiger Woods and fellow countryman Jason Day.
The tournament will be Herbert's chance for a top performance to ensure he remains within the top-100 or lower in the world rankings, which will help secure further invites to other major tournaments.
Following a T35 finish at the last week's British Masters, Herbert sits in 94th position on the world rankings and 98th on the Race to Dubai standings.
Herbert will tee up in round one of the US PGA at 22.57pm AEST time on Thursday night alongside Cory Schneider from the U.S and South Korean Im Sung-jae.
