The Border Raiders have started the season impressively with their two wins from two games just two victories shy of the four they achieved last season.
They started the season with a 7-1 win over Shepparton and followed up with a 3-0 win over league newcomers La Trobe University.
Joint coach Simon Arkinstall said the match at Truscott Reserve would be a truer indication of the Border Raiders' strength.
"We're very happy with our start to the season; we only won two games last year, so we are starting off a lot better than we did previously," he said.
"But the reality is there are four or perhaps five dominant teams in the competition and it's how we go against those teams that will matter.
"I'm a realist, but our aim is to get the points."
Arkinstall, who is joint coach alongside Bill Glentzes, said a pleasing feature of the two wins was the continued development of players, who had come through the club's junior ranks.
"Out of the squad of 16, 13 or 14 of those are locals who have gone through the Border Raiders juniors system," he said.
"From a club's perspective it's impressive that we can rely on our juniors coming through, some of who have come back to the club.
"The local talent is what we are relying on."
A key in the two wins has been undoubtedly Mitch Langenbacher, who leads all players in the competition with four goals.
The Border Raiders have also benefited from bright performances in the week one from Lachlan Arkinstall and in week two from Ryan Moore, who came off the bench to provide some spark in the midfield.
Coach Arkinstall said he was most looking forward to seeing how his players stood up to a 'physical and demanding' challenge from the Hawks, who long proven to be the competition benchmark.
"We suffered a few injuries in the last game; Adam Richardson copped a bit of a hit, but we're hoping he;' available," he said.
"He's a definite need in the midfield.
"(Truscott Reserve) is always a pretty daunting place to play, but hopefully we are right to go."
Eaglehawk, under triple championship-winning coach Greg Thomas, has four points from its two games.
The Hawks followed a 1-all draw against Shepparton United with a 2-1 win over Shepparton South.
Brent Hamblin and Chris Hopley each scored goals against South.
In other games, newcomers La Trobe University hosts Epsom, Colts United clashes with Golden City at Strathfieldsaye Recreation Reserve, Shepparton United meets Shepparton South at McEwen Reserve, and Tatura is away against Shepparton.
Strathdale, which like Moama-Echuca is undefeated, albeit having played only one game, has a bye.
In the women's championship, all fixtures are the same as the men's, with the exception of the clash between Swan Hill and Spring Gully United at Ken Harrison Reserve.
A bright start to the season by the Border Raiders' me has been matched by their women, who have also strated 2-0.
Courtney Ladgrove and Natalie Sands each has eight goals in two games for Moama-Echuca.
