Operation Nexus - which started today and will run through to midnight on Easter Monday - will focus on speed, impaired drivers, people not wearing seat belts, on- and off-road motorcycles, fatigue, and driver distraction.
"We will obviously target those high risk areas like the major arterial roads coming in and out of the city," Bendigo Highway Patrol Sergeant Lee Clayton said.
"Generally speaking, injury collision and fatalities often happen in those high speed zones, but it doesn't mean we will ignore other areas."
There have already been 96 deaths on Victorian roads this year. That is 38 more people than the same time last year.
Motorcyclist deaths and deaths on country roads make up 75 per cent of the road death toll.
The police efforts over the Easter weekend coincide with Operation Kinetic, where an additional 300 police shifts have been held on Victorian roads since March.
"We just ask everyone to have a safe weekend," Sergeant Clayton said. "Plan your trips and your breaks, make sure you share the driving load, and obviously don't drink and drive."
