It is understood the outage was the result of digging equipment hitting an underground cable.
UPDATE 3.55pm: A power outage affecting hundreds of properties in the Heathcote area was caused by digging equipment hitting an underground cable.
Powercor has revised the time power should be restored to 5pm.
EARLIER: More than 480 properties in the Heathcote area are experiencing a power outage due to an unknown fault.
Powercor indicates more than 400 properties in Heathcote are affected, with another 59 in Costerfield and 13 in Moormbool West.
Seven properties at Puckapanyal and three at Tooborac are also experiencing the outage.
As of 2pm, the estimated restoration time was 4.30pm Thursday.
The fault occurred on Kilmore Road at Heathcote.
The cause is under investigation.
