There's a lot to see and do at Bendigo Art Gallery during the school holidays. Book in for a holiday workshop, visit the Tudors to Windsors exhibition and learn about the incredible artworks on display with a fun family trail, or explore the permanent collection then visit the Gallery Café for a special treat! Bookings are essential for all workshops.
Workshops for kids aged 4 - 7 years
A Royal Portrait - Drawing and Collage: 11am - 12pm, Tuesday, April 16 or 1.30pm - 2.30pm, Wednesday, April 17.
This workshop will begin at the international exhibition Tudors to Windsors.
Afterwards, children will return to the gallery to create a royal portrait of their own. Using a mirror or a photo, children will draw their face then design a royal costume, complete with crown and jewellery. To create a rich and regal portrait, patterned papers, gold and silver pens along with craft jewels will be available to add to the portrait.
Bring a photo of yourself to draw from.
All children participating in these workshops must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $7.90 per child per session.
Watercolours: 1.30pm - 2.30pm, Tuesday, April 16 or 11am - 12pm, Wednesday, April 17.
Children will first view and talk about the watercolour landscapes of Indigenous artist Albert Namatjira, and those of his family and friends. From these paintings children will learn about a number of different techniques for using watercolour pencils and paints.
After some practice exercises, children will create their own imaginary landscape. These landscapes may be inspired by a place they have visited, or a place they wish to go.
Suitable for kids aged 10 - 16 years
A Royal Banquet - still life workshop for kids: 9.30am - 12pm, Thursday, April 18.
Join guest presenter and artist Alice Adams to arrange objects to stage a feast fit for a king! Then using an assortment of gold, silver and bronze pens and papers, experiment and create ways of making a 2D still life banquet focussing on line, texture and pattern. Cost $20 per child.
