Vandals have smashed two windows and tagged the back of Bendigo's Royal Tram on Monday night.
Chief executive of Bendigo Heritage Attractions Peter Abbott said he was "frustrated and disappointed" by the attack.
He said he hoped the offenders were caught on the many CCTV cameras near the tram. The Rosalind Park location for the tram had been partly chosen because of these, Mr Abbott said.
Mr Abbott's main priority was to restore the tram in time for the crowds of tourists that have been using it as a selfie-spot, he said.
The inside of the tram appears to be undamaged.
Mr Abbott said the graffiti should come off the back of the tram without too much trouble.
Heritage Attractions will do some patch repairs and get the windows replaced.
The cafe should be able to open as normal on Wednesday, Mr Abbott said.
The incident has been reported to the police.
