The Eagles, led by goals to Tash Romas and Olivia Kennedy defeated the Reds 2-1 in an intriguing contest at 'The Nest' at La Trobe University.
Romas etched her name into club history by being the first player - female or male - to score a goal for the fledgling club.
Her contribution late in the first half helped the Eagles claw back a 1-0 deficit to be on even terms at half time.
A goal in the final five minutes to Kennedy ensured a dream start to life in the BASL.
It was a proud moment for Eagles women's captain Courtney Van Diesen, who praised her players' toughness to fight back and claim their first points.
"It was tough being our first game together as a new team, we have had a lot of people away in the lead-up," she said.
"We have a lot of outdoor-education kids, who are away on camps, but it was good to get most of them back and gel together.
"It's been a big effort getting it altogether."
Van Diesen described Kennedy's match-winner as reward for a strong effort
"She was all over the ball throughout the game; she was a real playmaker in dispensing the ball to people," she said.
"She just knows where the ball needs to be.
"We've been working hard on getting shots off and Olivia was able to run the ball down and just hit it."
Meanwhile, Strathdale opened the season in convincing style with a 13-nil win over Golden City at Beischer No.1.
Bridget Meadows and Brigid McNamara put the writing on the wall for a big season ahead with five and four goals respectively in an ominous early warning for their rivals.
Lucy Teale and Spring Gully recruit Nicole Ford each added two goals to the massive scoreline.
Seven of the Blues' goals came in the opening half.
Reigning premiers Shepparton United got their championship defence off to a winning start with a 4-1 win over Eaglehawk.
United were forced to come from behind after Annabel Bradshaw found the back of the net for the Hawks in the ninth minute.
But it did not take long for United to reassert their authority, with goals to skipper Sarah Loverso (13th minute) and Sophie Papalia (17th) helping them to a 2-1 half-time lead.
A second goal to Papalia in the 81st minute and one to Cayla Ruijters in the 89th sealed an accomplished victory for United.
The Hawks will look to rebound next week against Shepparton South, which defeated Colts United 5-4 in its season opener at McEwen Reserve.
Alannah Scoelliti scored four goals for South, who came from 2-3 down at half time to claim the win.
Colts United had four individual goal scorers.
Moama-Echuca celebrated the season opening in style with a punishing 18-nil win over Shepparton.
Skipper Natalie Sands and Courtney Ladgrove jumped straight to the top of the goal scorers table with six apiece, as the Border Raiders piled on nine goals in each half of football.
Annie Kettle was the Border Raiders' other multiple goal scorer with three.
Tatura and Swan Hill played out a 1-all draw at Tatura's Howley Oval.
