The Glenn Douglas-trained pacer scored one of the biggest wins of his 83 race career with a smart win in a final at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday.

It was the third win from 12 starts for the former Marnie Bibby and Michael Norman-trained pacer since coming under the care of Douglas in January.

The Strathfieldsaye trainer believed the gelding had put the writing on the wall for a win following a last start second at Shepparton.

"He was probably a good thing beaten last time in the (series) heat," he said.

"He was out of the draw and I had to go outside them, but he did enough to get the prize.

"He's only just come to us - his last trainer only really trained that one horse, but he is the type of horse that needs company around him to make him work properly and to push himself.

"He doesn't seem the type of horse who likes to do things by himself and that's the reason he has come to us."

Douglas was confident there were still a few wins left in Wotchawaiting for.

"It's only his manners in the last three or four weeks that have let him down really, but we are starting to get that back together" he said.

"He runs the same good race week-in, week-out and is never far away.

"We will just poke through the country classes win him - he is still only relatively low in grade.

"I feel he will get to metropolitan class at Melton and is probably the type of horse that may be able to win a country cup - probably not this year, but next season.

"He is a big strong horse, but one who is still learning. Once he puts it all together he will be able to run in one (country cup)."

A triumphant night for the Bendigo training ranks continued when the Maiden Gully-trained trotter Lucinda Mac broke through for an overdue win at harness racing headquarters for Maree Campbell.

Douglas, who won five-consecutive Victorian training titles from 2007-08 to 2011-12, was quick to pass on his congratulations to the Campbells.

"They do a great job with a small team, so it was nice to see. And it was a great thing for Bendigo," he said.

"We have plenty of trainers coming through the grades and doing a good job all over the state.

"Lots of young ones too, which is what any sport needs to survive. It's great to see so many young ones in and around Bendigo."

Douglas continued his winning form with a double at Horsham on Sunday with Vandanta in a C2 to C3 pace and The Cobblers Piece in a C0-C1 pace.

Douglas was particularly impressed with the form of Vandanta ($7.60), who outsprinted the heavily-backed and highly-touted Lance Justice-trained Jean Luc ($2.50 favourite) to score a narrow win.

"He's just a horse who needs to get his mind sorted out and he will be a really nice horse," he said.

Douglas added a fourth win in three days with Elegant Jewel at Monday's meeting at Kilmore.
