On Saturday, the Federal Government announced the $850 million NDIS funding package to increase price limits for therapy, attendant care and community participation. It will come into effect on July 1.
Mr McLean said that funding would allow very important access to more services for people who use the NDIS.
"Certainly any increase is welcome and needed," he said. "The sector has being pointing out inadequacies for the whole six years of (the NDIS') life. It's good to see a response finally."
The new NDIS prices include a minimum increase of almost $11 per hour for therapists and up to a 15.4 percent price increase to the base limit for attendant care and community participation.
Minister for Families and Social Services Paul Fletcher said the changes reflected market trends, costs in wages and other influences.
"We have consulted widely with participants, providers and the sector to inform and implement these changes," he said.
"These changes form part of the National Disability Insurance Agency's (NDIA) annual price review to update prices. It also responds to regular monitoring of markets and responding to emerging issues.
"These processes have identified the need to increase prices for attendant care and community participation and we are responding to that."
Mr McLean said access to therapy and psychiatrists was an important service for many people under the NDIS.
"It's difficult in the Bendigo region," he said. "There are long waiting lists for those that (require therapy or psychological assessments).
"I know of one family who waited six months for an appointment to see a specialist clinical psychiatrist to assess their son.
"This change makes it more attractive for clinicians and practitioners to enter the market."
But Mr McLean said he was keen to see other areas of the NDIS addressed.
"We can say its welcome news that two of areas that have required an increase in funding have received it," Mr McLean said. "But it may leave some areas underfunded.
"There are more developments and changes that the NDIS and NDIA need to respond to but it is good to see movement."
Mr McLean said he would like see issues including participant planning and review, transport arrangements, and funding employment supports looked at more closely.
"I'm keen to see the NDIS address (these issues)," he said. "The issue of supporting people with complex also needs to be developed further.
"There's no indication to address issues of funding transport for people who may face isolation.
"At the NDIS forum (in Bendigo) last week one person explained they lived quite a way from Bendigo and had a (community participation) package but it was unspent because they had no transport.
"So there are still other issues that need to be fixed."
