BENDIGO cyclists Alessia McCaig and Jackson Hadden have opened their medal accounts at the Junior National Track Championships in Brisbane.
The talented teens ended day one of the championships with a gold medal apiece, after Thursday's nights finals.
Just hours after establishing a new national record in under-17 women's 200m flying, 15-year-old McCaig won her final to give her a fifth gold medal at the championships in the past two years.

Hadden, who is competing in the under-17 men's division, earned team pursuit gold alongside Carnegie-Caulfield's Max Leiner and Campbell McEwan and Blackburn's Tarun Cook.
It was a tremendous reward for persistence and dedication for Hadden, who was selected in the Victorian track team in 2017, but missed the championships due to a collarbone injury.
McCaig and Hadden are among a group of seven Bendigo and District Cycling Club riders in the 20-member Victorian team.
They are joined by Belinda Bailey, Jasmine Eddy, Haylee Jack, Angus Gill and Nate Hadden.
The championships will run March 28-31.
