THE Bendigo Pioneers are sitting in their highest position on a ladder for six years.
The Pioneers began their NAB League Boys season in sensational style last Sunday, defeating traditional power Geelong by 43 points.
The 13.8 (86) to 6.7 (43) victory - just the second time Bendigo has beaten Geelong in their past 21 meetings - at Colac's Central Reserve has the Pioneers occupying second position on the ladder behind only Sandringham.
The last time the Pioneers sat this high on the ladder was after the opening round of 2013 when they were also second following a 42-point victory over North Ballarat.
With a round one win under their belt, the Pioneers will now target back-to-back victories for the first time since 2014 when they take on long-time nemesis Murray Bushrangers at Shepparton's Deakin Reserve this Saturday from 2pm.
The Pioneers have lost their past 27 games against the Bushrangers dating back to 2004.
Meanwhile, the Pioneers are eighth on the NAB League Girls ladder with their 1-2 record.
The Pioneers Girls will be striving to square their ledger at 2-2 when they venture to Wangaratta's Norm Minns Oval to play the Bushrangers from 11.45am on Saturday.
The Pioneers Girls suffered a 49-point loss to ladder-leader Geelong last weekend.
