A mechanical fault caused a truck fire which has closed northbound lanes of the Calder Freeway for more than six hours, police say.
CFA were called to the scene of a truck fire and grass fire near Elphinstone at about 11.30am. It was put under control by 11.53am.
The Calder Freeway is likely to remain closed for about half an hour longer.
Traffic was diverted via the Old Calder Highway through Malmsbury.
3.05pm:
The Calder Freeway is likely to remain closed to northbound traffic at Malmsbury for another hour.
The freeway was closed as firefighters fought a truck fire at Elphinstone on Wednesday morning.
1.10pm:
Firefighters are still on the scene of a truck fire on the Calder Freeway at Elphinstone.
The fire was put under control at about 11.50am on Wednesday.
The firefighters are pulling apart the contents of the furniture van which was alight, to make sure the fire has been put out.
Northbound lanes on the Calder Freeway remain closed from Malmsbury.
12.30pm:
Smoke from a fire at Elphinstone may be visible from roads and communities.
Firefighters are attending the truck and grass fire, which was called in at about 11.30am.
There is no immediate threat to communities, and no action is required.
Smoke can affect some people's health, including those with pre-existing health problems, heart or lung conditions, children, pregnant women and older people.
Poeple with pre-existing heart or lung conditions should follow the treatment plan advised by their doctor.

12.15pm:
CFA have controlled a truck fire and grass fire on the Calder Freeway, called in at about 11.30 on Wednesday.
Both fires were under control by about 11.53am. Seven tankers are on the scene of the fire, with another on its way.
Police have been called to the scene for traffic control.

The Calder Freeway is closed northbound at Malmsbury as the CFA fight a truck fire at Elphinstone.
The fire was called in just before 11.30am. The truck is still on fire, and the fire has spread to grass nearby.
Three tankers are on the scene of the fire.
