Yarding: 16,454. Change: down 5284. Lambs: 10,757. Change: down 2890. Sheep: 5697. Change: down 2394.
There was a further reduction in numbers, with 10,757 lambs and 5697 sheep yarded.
Several buyers who had been quiet recently showed more interest in securing numbers, leading to a dearer market across all categories.
The heaviest lambs, which had been discounted in the past fortnight, were up to $30 dearer while the general run of trade weight lambs gained $5 to $10/head.
A highlight was demand for any well bred and finished light and medium weight domestic lambs which pushed over 700c/kg cwt at times.
Significant price gains were also evident for mutton, with heavy ewes lifting by up to $30/head.
Heavy export lambs over 30kg cwt sold to $208 with four pens over $200/head.
As a comparison, similar sized lambs a week ago reached just $184/head.
The main run of heavy crossbred lambs, 26-30kg cwt, sold from $174 to $201 to average around $185/head. The next category down, 24-26kg cwt, made from $166 to $178/head.
These heavy lambs were trending around 650c/kg cwt.
Competition between buyers was keenest on trade weight lambs.
The best run of 22-24kg cwt crossbred lambs made from $155 to $175/head at an estimated 670c to 680c, some pens over 700c/kg cwt.
The pick of the light domestic lambs, 18-20kg, sold to $145/head, however they had to show good shape and finish to be at this money.
Plainer light lambs mostly $120 to $138/head.
The supply of quality small lambs remained very tight, and values for any suitable MK export stock did improve. Bidding for heavy mutton was at much higher levels than the past fortnight.
Heavy crossbred ewes $148 to $178, and Merino ewes $120 to $176/head.
The main runs of heavy Merino ewes were estimated at 480c/kg cwt.
The only soft spot in the market was for very plain and light sheep, showing the affects of the drought, which were cheaper in places.

CATTLE
Tuesday, March 26
The drought is taking its toll, with the large sell off of cattle numbers throughout Australia over the course of the past twelve months seeing reduced yardings coming forward across all centres this week.
Bendigo certainly wasn't resistant to this and experienced a reduced yarding by over half and very few fat cattle to quote on.
Due to the reduced supply, demand for all grades lifted significantly.
Vealers topped at 332 cents per kilogram and cows rose 50 cents per kilo, to top at 215 cents.
Feeder cattle made to 285 cents per kilogram.
All other grades were in such low supply, quoting on these lines to the previous weeks wouldn't have given a true reflection of the market.
If today was any sign of the market trending north, we wait in anticipation of what impact a general drought breaking rain will have.

Wool Report
Week ending March 23
The poor seasonal conditions prevailing across large areas of the country has seen an increasing supply of lower style wools with poor additional measurements on offer.
Average and inferior style wools comprised up to 15.4% of Merino fleece lots this week. These lots were progressively discounted which contributed to the losses recorded in most Merino Price Guides. The EMI fell a further 16 cents to 1,963 c/kg clean.
This week 43,129 bales were offered for sale nationally, with 10.3% passed in. A smaller offering of 38,950 bales are currently rostered for sale next week.
Buyers keenly sought the reduced selection of best and good style lots in Sydney on Wednesday with these lots achieving similar prices to the last sale.
Poorer style lots comprised 24% of Wednesday's selection and were discounted, particularly those with lower strength and higher mid-breaks. This pattern continued during Thursday's sale for lots < 18.5 µm.
Merino skirtings slipped further this week, lower style lots with high VM lost up to 80 cents. Crossbred lots were steady and while oddments tended to ease. The Northern Regional Indicator fell 20 cents to 2,007 c/kg clean, the Northern Merino Carding Indicator lost 66 cents to 1,172 c/kg clean.
