John Richards is one of the founders and head writer of the narrative comedy series Night Terrace.
The audio series follows the adventures of Dr Anastasia Black and her suburban terrace house as they travel through time and space.
Mr Richard and the other founders - Ben McKenzie, Lee Zachariah, David Ashton and Petra Elliot - said they were all excited about the move.
"It's absolutely amazing," Mr Richards said. "BBC Radio invented audio drama so it's really a vote of confidence from them."
Mr Richards had been working on a Doctor Who podcast series called Splendid Chaps in 2013 and gained a legion of fans online.
"It came to an end and we wanted to do something with the audience we created," he said. "It seemed like the logical thing to do."
The Night Terrace podcast series launched in October 2014 and has completed two seasons of eight 28-minute episodes.
There has also been a 25-minute prequel mini-series and a 45-minute special recorded live in front of an audience.
The regular cast on the audio series includes Neighbours' Jackie Woodburne as Dr Anastasia Black and Ben McKenzie as Dr Black's uninvited house guest Eddie Jones.
There have also been many guest appearances from actors like Rosehaven's Celia Pacquola, Doctor Who's Louise Jameson, and Winners and Losers' Virginia Gay.
"It is slightly ridiculous to see how many stars there are on the list," Mr Richards said.
The first two seasons were crowdfunded but Mr Richards said after receiving the backing of the BBC the sky was the limit.
"We do have plans for season three but we want to see what happens with this first," he said. "There is obviously going to be a lot more exposure."
The episodes will begin airing on BBC Radio 4 on April 24. They can also be heard internationally on BBC iPlay or nightterrace.com
