The 27-year-old pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court this week to failing an oral fluid test.
The court was told police pulled the man over in Olympic Parade, Bendigo West in July last year.
An oral fluid test indicated the presence of an illicit substance and a subsequent test detected methamphetamine in the man's saliva, but he told police he had used marijuana.
More court news:
Magistrate Sarah Leighfield said she took into account the man's guilty plea and his personal circumstances, as a health concern meant he could not currently work.
But a prior offence meant his licence had to be suspended for a mandatory 12 months, effective from November, when he received a police notice of suspension.
He was also fined $750 and ordered to undertake a driver behaviour change program.
