Thanks to comments from our readers, we can confirm the flying object was an Airborne Electromagnetic Survey (AEM) from Fosterville Gold Mine.
The device is being used to geologically map the area.
Fosterville Gold Mine told residents the AEM would being flying north of Kamarooka during the next 12 to 48 hours.
They shared a video about the device to Facebook.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
Well, it definitely looks like a helicopter. But what is the unidentifiable object it's towing along in the sky?
Bendigo resident Dion Costigan spotted the helicopter flying over Epsom around 4pm on Wednesday. He shared a video of the incident on social media.
There was speculation the round device was being used to detect minerals in the soil.
Others thought the device was looking for gas underground.
Earth Resources Victoria has previously undertaken geological surveys of the Bendigo region.
The body's website doesn't currently have any projects listed in the area.
