Homicide detectives arrested a 35-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man in Echuca on Tuesday and charged them with child homicide over the death of Angela Bannister.
Angela was just one month shy of her second birthday when she died in suspicious circumstances in Echuca on July 19, 2008.
Angela's mother, Tania Walker, and her partner at the time, Daniel Simmons, briefly faced Echuca Magistrate's Court on Tuesday afternoon and were remanded in custody.
An inquest into Angela's death in 2012 ruled that the child had died from injuries sustained by her mother or stepfather.
Anyone who has information in relation to the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
