The man pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court to one charge of lighting a fire in a prohibited period, in relation to the incident on November 6 last year.
The court heard a call was made to triple zero that evening in relation to a fire at Woodvale, where firefighters found a blaze in a paddock.
More court news:
Police later attended and spoke to the property owner, who was co-operative and said he wanted to burn off waste.
He told police he did not think it was the fire danger period and he had not checked, but he was remorseful for his actions.
The man had 1000 litres of water available at the time.
The man told the court it was raining the morning of that day, and he thought it was a good opportunity to clean up his block.
He said there was no debris around the fire and he thought it was safe, but he now had more information from the CFA.
The man was put on a six-month adjourned undertaking without conviction, and ordered to make a $400 donation to the Woodvale CFA.
