A Rushworth resident has reported being woken up to what sounded like a truck from a direction there was no road after an earthquake at Bamawn Extension on Monday.
The 2.1 magnitude earthquake hit just before 1am on Monday.
A Geoscience Australia spokesperson said an earthquake this size would likely only be felt within a few kilometres by light sleepers.
There have been two earthquakes in the past five years within 25 kilometres of the location.
A 3.7 magnitude earthquake in 2008 was the largest earthquake recorded nearby in the past 50 years.
Geoscience Australia received two reports in response to information published about the earthquake.

A magnitude 2.0 earthquake hit parts of central Victoria early on Monday morning.
Bamawn Extension was shaken by an earthquake at 12.48am.
Geoscience Australia reports the earthquake took place at a depth of 10 kilometres It was felt as far afield as Rushworth.
