Sam Johnston's healing powers have surprised even his Strathdale-Maristians team-mates, with the star all-rounder declaring himself fit to tackle Golden Square this weekend.
A foot injury suffered in late January was expected to force Johnston to sit out the rest of the season.
He was still in a moon boot last Friday, but he trained this week and his return helps offset the loss of fellow opening bowler Ryan Haythorpe to a calf injury.
"Great to have Sam back. He got out of his moon boot on Friday and he'll attempt to play as much as he can,'' Suns' skipper Ben DeAraugo.
"He hasn't bowled at full pace (at training) because he's still recovering. We're hoping he can have an impact with the bat… and the plan is to bowl him, but not lots of overs and not at full pace.
"Ryan has a history of soft tissue injuries and he normally has at least one per season. It's just a shame that the latest one came in the last round because he'd been in really good form."
Haythorpe's injury and Johnston's inability to bowl at full pace puts more pressure on Adrian Pappin and Jacob DeAraugo to perform with the ball against the best batting line-up in the competition.
"Adrian has been bowling really well with the new ball and Jake hasn't had the best season, but his performance against Strathfieldsaye two rounds ago was really good,'' Ben DeAraugo said.
"Hopefully, he brings that form into the game this week.
"Golden Square has some really good players at the top of the order, so our bowlers need to be right on from the start."
If the Suns' pacemen falter early it could set up an enthralling battle between Suns' star leg-spinner Cam Taylor and Square's aggressive top-order.
Taming Taylor would put Square in the box seat to claim victory. In two defeats to the Bulldogs this season, Taylor had figures of 0-54 off 24 overs and 2-47 off 6.4 overs.
If Square's top-order falls early, Taylor will smell blood in the water.
He's made a habit of destroying middle and lower-orders, with 28 of his 46 wickets this season players who bat at number six or lower in the order.
Play on Saturday and Sunday at Wade Street starts at noon.
