The 14-tonne tram touched down Wednesday night.
It might have taken ten minutes to lift the tram into place, but the seamless operation was the culmination of months of preparation, Oz Cranes and Rigging owner Paul Schoder said.
"The complexity of the job is that it is located on a bridge," he said.
"There's some load and structural factors that come with putting a 14 tonne object on one of Bendigo's main bridges."
Engineers had been brought in to beef up supports under the bridge, which runs across the Bendigo Creek,
Oz Cranes workers had to think carefully about which crane to use for the job and where it would be placed to avoid undue stress on the bridge.
The tram will be officially unveiled tomorrow and will operate throughout the exhibition period, serving as a very British respite for hot tea and selfies.
The exhibition begins on Saturday and continues through to mid-July.
