But not for a group of young racers from the Bendigo Kart Club.
Four of the club's members have been selected to line up on the track as Grid Kids at this weekend's Australian Grand Prix.
Chelsea Humphrey, 8, Ethan Cornwill, 12, Charlee Richardson, 13, and James Ceveri, 13 will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to stand side-by-side with the world's best racing drivers.
Richardson - who has been racing karts for seven years - is looking forward to getting a glimpse of life behind the scenes of a formula one race.
"I'm really excited about being a Grid Kid," Richardson said.
"I can't wait to see all the drivers and watch what they do to prepare before each race."
The experience will give Richardson a great insight into the world she is most passionate about, and one day hopes to be a part of.
"It's the pinnacle of racing," Richardson said.
"One day I will definitely have a go at trying to race in formula one (W Series)."
Humphrey - who has been racing karts for two years - is most excited about watching the drivers as they reach speeds in excess of 300 kilometres per hour around the Albert Park street circuit.
"I'm really looking forward to watching the race," Humphrey said.
"I like watching cars go fast around race tracks."
This will be one of the biggest life experiences for the 8-year-old racer who has plans herself to compete as a professional racing driver in the future.
The children were selected by Karting Australia, out of more than 270 applicants and their roles at the race will include holding the national flags of each driver and being a highlight of the pre-race entertainment.
Cornwill enjoys the buzz he receives from watching the drivers go wheel-to-wheel at top speeds.
"I love the speed and adrenaline and how fast the drivers go," Cornwill said.
"I'm very excited about getting out onto the grid."
Ceveri - whose family had a rich history in motorsport - above all is looking forward to experiencing the unique ambience of a Grand Prix.
"I love the atmosphere of racing and the high-speeds," Ceveri said.
One thing they will all be doing is cheering on Australia's own - Daniel Ricciardo - who will be making his debut race with Renault.
The Australian Grand Prix marks the beginning of the 21-race season, which will culminate at Abu Dhabi in November.
