Central Victorian netball fans had a taste of elite netball on Saturday when the Collingwood Magpies and Queensland Firebirds played a Super Netball trial match at the new Bendigo Stadium.
A crowd of more than 2000 supporters watched the Firebirds hold off the Magpies 55-53 in a tight contest.
The result meant little as both clubs prepare for the start of the Super Netball season on April 27.
Saturday's trial game was a precursor to next month's Super Netball pre-season tournament in Bendigo.
The Magpies and Firebirds will return to Bendigo and join the Melbourne Vixens and West Coast Fever in a two-day carnival.
On Saturday, March 30 the Magpies and Fever play at 3pm followed by the Vixens and Firebirds at 5pm.
The following day the Fever and Firebirds clash at 1pm, with the Vixens and Magpies to play at 3pm.
The Magpies and Fever will be back in Bendigo once again on May 25 where they'll play the first Super Netball regular season game at Bendigo Stadium.
