A highlight in round two of the Summer Super Series at Sydney’s Olympic Park Athletics Centre will be the race for the national 5000m title.
Buchanan will be up against the likes of King Island’s Stewart McSweyn, Rio Olympian Sam McEntee, and Victorian stars Harry Summers and Joel Tobin-White, and Jordan Gusman of New South Wales.
Victorious in the national 10,000m by 22 seconds at Zatopek on Melbourne’s Lakeside track last December, McSweyn will start hot favourite in Sydney.
The star from King Island is aiming to match the feat of training partner Brett Robinson, the national 5km and 10km titleholder in the 2014-15 season.
A hectic summer for Buchanan included racing in the world cross-country selection trial 10km at Mt Stromlo in Canberra.
The Bendigo University Athletics Club member is a dual national 10km cross-country champion and has raced some of the biggest track races in Melbourne and Sydney.
