Also known as a perigee moon - the moon appeared larger in the sky as it passed Earth at the closest point of its elliptical orbit.
It means the moon looks about 14 per cent larger in diameter than usual.
In Bendigo, six-year-old Oliver Hawking was excited to see the super moon.
