THE record-breaking streak by Joan Self rolled on at Flack Advisory Bendigo Region’s latest athletics meeting on Saturday in Flora Hill.
Self’s leap of 7.76 metres at triple jump broke the Centre record for the 60-plus age group.
Records in a variety of track and field disciplines have been broken by the South Bendigo Athletics Club veteran this season.
The fifth non-Athletics Victoria Shield meeting drew many competitors to the La Trobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Retreat Road, Flora Hill.
Highs included the sprint double by Eaglehawk young gun Laura Kadri in the 100m and 200m contests.
Kadri raced to the line in 13.18 and 27.13 seconds respectively.
Other heat winners were South Bendigo’s Abbey Hromenko, and Melissa Burge from Bendigo Harriers.
The margin between Hawks’ clubmates Gabe Rusbridge and Niah Langtree was nine-hundredths of a second at the end of the second of the 200m heats.
The multi-talented James Woods followed up his victory in the first of the 100m heats by clearing 1.75m at high jump and later hit the 12.18m mark at triple jump.
Bendigo Harriers’ rising star Seth Hoskin continued his impressive run of form by winning the first of the 200m heats in 24.46 from Eaglehawk’s Kenan Seebah, 24.91.
It was an Eaglehawk quinella in the first of four heats in the 800m as Jamie Harrison, 1:59.23, and James Bentley, 2:02.83, had a great duel.
Other heat winners were South Bendigo’s Greg Hilson and Olivia Attard, and Bendigo Harriers’ Anne Buckley.
Harriers’ veteran Peter Cowell won the 3000m in 11:05.
The outstanding form of many field athletes continued in the build-up to the Athletics Victoria Shield final at Lakeside Stadium next Saturday.
South Bendigo star Emma Berg, who hails from Swan Hill, hurled the discus past the 40m mark and put the shot to the 12.76m mark.
Daughter and father, Olivia and Craig Graham from Eaglehawk AC went one-two in hammer on best throws of 42.46 and 31.94m.
Best at triple jump included Eaglehawk’s Denise Snyder and Harry Roberts at 11.15m and 10.67m, and Abbey Hromenko on 10.39m added to South Bendigo’s run.
