EAGLEHAWK’S reigning best and fairest in its premiership year, Jack Fallon, will have a delayed start to the BFNL season.
Gun utility Fallon has suffered a partial tear of his right ACL while surfing in Bali.
“I’m not sure how many games I will miss at this stage, but hopefully, it’s only the first couple of weeks,” Fallon said at the weekend.
“I certainly won’t be pushing it and coming back too early.”
Fallon has spent the pre-season striving to earn a spot on Essendon’s VFL list.
“It has definitely been challenging and a great experience, but this (injury) will put a bit of a hold on things for the moment,” Fallon said.
“I’m just going to do all the physio, do all the right things and see what happens.”
Fallon starred for the Hawks in his first season at Canterbury Park last year after arriving from Merbein.
He polled 75 votes to win the club’s George Ilsley Medal to join the select group of players to have won a best and fairest in a premiership season.
Fallon was also among Bendigo’s best players in its inter-league loss to Hampden and is keen to represent the BFNL again against Outer East in May.
“Hopefully, my knee is good to go by then and if so I’ll be 100 per cent committed to being part of inter-league again… it was good fun last year,” Fallon said.

Meanwhile, Fallon’s premiership team-mate, Glen Daly – a stalwart at Eaglehawk – is on the move.
Daly is joining the Queensland Fire Service and departs the Hawks after more than 250 open-age games with the club, plus a unique feat.
The consistent half-back is the only player in the club’s history to have won the senior best and fairest (two), reserves best and fairest (two) and under-18 best and fairest (one).
The Hawks begin their 2019 season with an away game against Strathfieldsaye – the team they beat in last year’s grand final by 49 points – on April 13.
